January 15, Year of Our Lord, 1913, cont.
The jobs done by people and animals were done by machines. The spinning jenny, the water wheel, and then the mechanical loom. These stirred up trouble and fights broke out. Mostly by weavers who were being forced out of business. It wasn't long before a steam-engine was made. Then we had horseless carriages powered by the steam engines, a clattering and clanking along the cobbled streets. It continued, until we had airships powered by steam and they floated across the oceans. Of course, not everyone like this new progress, with its dirtying of streams and air...
